Rabbi Akiva Eiger watched in dismay as his wagon driver struggled through mud and snow to get his sidetracked horses back on the road. As the fellow climbed back to his seat, Rabbi Eiger handed him a pair of dry socks – “Take them. They’re extra.”
Only later, when the rabbi disembarked, did the driver notice that the rabbi’s ankles were bare. He protested, “You sat in the cold, without your socks! Why did you say they were extra?”
Replied the rabbi: “When you are shivering, they’re extra for me.” ~ The Torah Personality
