From the time we were exiled from our land, we have been praying and longing each day that Hashem may at last redeem us, but our prayers have not yet been answered.  There are many sins responsible for the length of the Exile, but the sin of lashon hara rises above them all.  Since the Exile was caused by lashon hara, the Redemption cannot come until we correct it.
