Our Sages tell us that even if a person restrains himself from forbidden speech for just a mere moment, he will merit the special hidden light reserved for those who guard their tongues – as we see from the words of the Midrash, quoted by the Vilna Gaon: “For every single moment that a person guards his mouth from speaking forbidden words, he merits to enjoy a hidden light that no angel could possibly fathom.” ~ R’ Asher Wasserman
