Some people behave like clocks.
Imagine a fire raging all around a house but the clock keeps ticking, oblivious to all else.
The fire comes closer and closer, but the clock keeps ticking.
It only stops when the fire engulfs it!
~ The Baal Shem Tov

Not sure I grasp clearly the message from the Baal Shem Tov. Can you provide some commentaries / insights? If the fire represents the “problems” then that’s contradictory because the Hasidic approach is all about having Emunah and Bitachon and not let the problems impact you and depress you.
If the fire is more the Yetzer Hara, then that would make maybe more sense but I still struggle to understand
I also stared at this quote for a little while, but my understanding is that it is the Yetzer Hara and all the negative outside influences. We need to be aware of them, extinguish the fire immediately, and not wait for it to engulf us.
