This world was not created in order to afford people the opportunity to serve God in tranquility and repose.

Rather, this world is a place where one is to serve God while overcoming obstacles and impediments in the face of adversity and enmity. 

Thus, “Better one [deed] accomplished in hardship than 100 [deeds] done with ease.” (Avos d R’Nosson 3:6)
