Only Joy

The Almighty’s presence does not rest where there is sadness, only where there is joy in fulfilling His commandments. ~ Talmud Shabbos 30b

How Strong is your Trust?

The summer sun shone mercilessly. Acres of freshly grown crops began to dehydrate, and flocks of animals search in vain to quench their thirst.

In desperation, a group of farmers gathered in the synagogue to pray for rain.

After listening to the passionate prayers, a little boy asked his father if the men truly expected rain. “Of course,” replied his father. “Otherwise, we wouldn’t be here.”

“But father,” the child protested, “why hasn’t anyone brought an umbrella?”

The Yichud Room Present

Hakadosh Baruch Hu married Klal Yisrael and gave us a wedding band, two luchos of sapphire.

He asked the malachim what He could give the kallah in the yichud room.  He looked in His treasure house for the most precious item He could find.

He found it.

The malachim said, “No, that’s not for human beings, that belongs in shamayim, it’s too precious.”

But Hashem said no, this is my gift to them, I have nothing better than this.

And its name is…Shabbos.

Nothing better exists

Have a wonderful meaningful Shabbos!

Illuminate

God gave each of us a soul, which is a candle that He gives us to illuminate our surroundings with His light.  We must not only illuminate the inside of our homes, but also the outside, and the world at large. ~ The Lubavitcher Rebbe zt”l

The Greatest Praise

It states in the Sefer Ha’Ikrim, “Bitachon in Hashem is greater than all praises that one can say to Hashem.”

We can say all day that Hashem is the Master of the World, He can do everything, He loves us, He helps us, etc., but perhaps our hearts do not accept what we are saying.  Perhaps we have some doubts.

But when one has bitachon, it proves that he believes that Hashem loves him, cares for him, and will help those who rely on Him. Bitachon is the greatest praise because he is living and practicing what he believes in.

Overcome

When one has genuine love for Hashem, it will burn away all foolish thoughts. And this is the only effective way to overcome bad thoughts: to have a constant desire to serve Hashem. ~ Sefas Emes

Don’t be Afraid

When you think you can conquer the yetzer hara, you will.

But when you are afraid that you won’t succeed, you probably won’t.

No

You ask your parents for the car keys and they say “No. You can’t have them.  It’s not a good idea.”  Do you say, “Okay, so then you don’t exist?”

Well, a person can say the words, but of course they will exist just the same.

Sometimes, Hashem answers our requests and sometimes He doesn’t.  He knows more than we do, and if He says no, then there’s a reason for it. So to conclude that He isn’t there because we didn’t get what we wanted is silly.

“No” is the answer.

Don’t stop praying because things didn’t go the way you wanted. He’s there, listening.

No Fear of God

If someone knows Torah but doesn’t have yiras shamayim, it is like a talis kattan without tzitzis attached to it.

Be B’Simchah

A chasid told the Lev Simchah zt’l that he is without children many years after his wedding.

The Lev Simchah told him “Be b’simchah, and there will be a simchah.” If he is happy, he will merit bearing a child.  However, he asked the Rebbe for another solution as it was almost impossible for him to be happy in his childless state.

The Rebbe replied, “What can I do? Hashem loves simchah.”

The chasid worked on himself and succeeded in becoming happy, and his salvation came shortly afterward.

Today is Rosh Chodesh Adar – a time to increase our simchah!
