Sorry

I just want to apologize for the email that mistakenly went out this morning.  I had previously set up tonight’s post to go out at 8:30 pm, or at least I thought I did, but it instead went out on Shabbos morning at 8:30 am.  I just wanted to clear that up.  I had a beautiful Shabbos and hope you did as well.  Gut vuch!

The Lost Wallet

A traveler arrived in Frankfurt and realized that he had lost his wallet.  He went to Rabbi Avraham Abish Lissa, the local rabbi, who reassured him “Don’t worry, your money will be found. But first, recite the morning prayers.”

While praying, the man suddenly remembered where he had left his wallet.  When he happily informed the rabbi that the money was found, the rabbi replied, “Of course you found it!  I told you to pray because prayer restores your composure, giving you the peace of mind to remember what you had forgotten.

~ Adapted from R’ Avrohom Chaim Feuer as quoted by Alan Morinis

Darkness

Darkness is not chased away with sticks, not even with cannons.  One simply lights a small candle, and the darkness flees before it. ~ The Chofetz Chaim

Working Lessons

If all the world is a classroom and all of life is a lesson, then certainly your profession and workplace are included.

After all, He has unlimited ways to provide your livelihood—why did He direct you to this way of life?

What sparks of the divine await you here? ~ Lubavitcher Rebbe as quoted by R’ Tzvi Freeman

What is the Yetzer Hara hiding from you?

Among the objectives of the yetzer hara (Evil Inclination), one of the very greatest for which he exerts himself with all of his strength, is that men should not see how happy life is.

Now listen to that again: The yetzer hara tries with all his might to conceal from us how happy our lives really are. Let that sink in. ~ R’ Avigdor Miller zt”l

GPS

When you get lost, the GPS doesn’t tell you  to go back to your starting point, rather it recalculates and fixes your route via  satellite from above…so too in life, when you get lost, trust the Torah map from above to get right back on track! ~ R’ Cheshin

oooh ahhh

A brutal Russian winter raged, and a chassid wished to teach his son the importance of immersion in the mikva. Father and son approached a frozen lake on the outskirts of the city. The chassid undressed his shivering son and broke a hole in the ice. “When you immerse, you will feel chilled,” the father explained gently, “but afterward I will wrap you in a warm blanket.”

The chassid dipped his child in the icy lake. As soon as the child’s body touched the freezing lake, the child shrieked, “ooooh!” Immediately the father lifted his child out of the lake and wrapped him in a warm blanket. The child emitted a sigh of contentment, “ahhh.”

“Throughout life,” the chassid explained, “think which reaction comes first – the ‘oooh’ or the ‘ahhh’? When ‘oooh’ comes first and ‘ahhh’ follows, you have done the right thing. But if the ‘ahhh’ precedes the ‘oooh,’ you have probably made the wrong decision.” ~ Heard from Rabbi Yisroel Gordon as quoted in Chicken Soup to Warm the Neshama
