Just 5 Minutes Late

“One who comes only five minutes late to davening every day, loses the possibility to answer ‘Boruch Hu Uvoruch Shimoh’ and ‘Amen’ five thousand times over the course of the entire year!” ~ R’ Aizik Ausband Shlit”a from Torah Tavlin

Don’t Despair

“One should forever arouse his good inclination to subdue his evil inclination.” ~Berachos 5a

“One should not grow frustrated if, after he resolved to avoid forbidden speech, his evil inclination got the better of him and he spoke loshon hora. Even if this happens time and again, nevertheless, he should not despair. Rather, he should forever strengthen himself to avoid improper speech, and persevere. This is how one should conduct himself his entire life… Life is an ongoing struggle with one’s evil inclination. One must forever be poised for battle and never be discouraged by failure. With knowledge of what the Torah requires of us and proper resolve, our efforts will ultimately succeed.” ~ Teachings of the Chofetz Chaim

Our Ancestor’s Faith

“Our job is not to have faith. We have faith already, whether we want it or not. It comes in our blood from our ancestors who gave their lives for it.  Our job is to transport that higher vision that gave them their faith down into our minds, into our personalities, into our words, into our actions in daily life. To make it part of our selves and our world.” ~ Bringing Heaven Down to Earth by Tzvi Freeman

Yesterday, the world lost a gadol.  Rabbi Chaim Pinchas Scheinberg, the Rosh Yeshiva of Mattersdorf prominent Yeshiva Torah Ore, one of Kiryat Mattersdorf’s most highly regarded Rabbonim, and a member of Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah, who was renowned for wearing dozens of pairs of tzitzis passed away.  Here is a video someone sent me and thought I should share:

Great Lesson on Anger and Free Will

“At the time of a person’s anger, faith in God has left him.  For were he to believe that what happened to him was God’s doing, he would not be angry at all.  And while it is true that the person who is cursing him, or striking him, or causing damage to his property, possesses free choice, and is therefore guilty…nevertheless, as regards to the person harmed, this incident was already decreed in Heaven and God has many agents through whom He can act.” ~ Tanya, Igeres Hakodesh Ch. 25

Either Way, Someone is Hurting

“We have a tradition from the Baal Shem Tov that when someone tells you ‘not good things’ about another person, you should feel great pain and distress. Because, either way you look at it, someone is hurting: If the story about this person is true, then things are not good for him. And if the report is false, then the one who has fabricated it is hurting.” ~ Bringing Heaven Down to Earth by Tzvi Freeman
