Reb Zalman Brizel zt’l had a bakery in Meah Shearim where one of his employees learned
the tricks of the trade and opened his own bakery nearby.

Not only was Reb Zalman not angry, he even offered him advice on how to improve his business.  

Upon being asked why he did this, Reb Zalman replied, “My parnassah was pre-determined on Rosh Hashanah, so he isn’t taking anything away from me. In fact, he is saving me time and work because he is taking some of my customers while, simultaneously, I’m not losing money. So, if he helps me, shouldn’t I have hakaras hatov and help him, too?”

Some people spend a lifetime making preparations for this world and forget that their whole purpose of being in this world is to prepare for the next world. 

Upon being asked whether a Yeshiva student should insist on marrying the daughter of a talmid chacham, HaRav Avigdor Nebenzahl replied, “It is certainly commendable, but what is more important is to insist that your wife is the wife of a talmid chacham.” 

Everyone has a treasure in his own backyard.

In a place where no one is stepping forward to take responsibility, you should try to be that person.

When there’s no one to get the job done, it’s time to step up.

How can a nation go from ashes, the point of death, and then half a century later, they’re a superpower?

It’s because we are Hashem’s people.

Five guys on a tour to the north are just five guys on a tour to the north, but if they’re soldiers on a mission, then they’re not just five guys.  They represent the entire battalion, the whole army, all of the nation.

We walked out of Mitzrayim and were charged with a mission.  When you stand for Hashem, His presence is within you.  You represent Him and His whole army.
