   There is a common misconception; people mistakenly confuse happiness with pleasure. They think that pleasures will make them happy.

   In fact, happiness is the state of realization that one possesses something of absolute value.

   Pleasures of this world are short lasting and quick to dissipate, and are therefore by definition unable to breed happiness. True happiness can therefore only come from spiritual matters, as their existence is eternal, they never get lost or disappear.

   I heard from mori v’rabi Hagaon Rav Shlomo Brevda Shlita that many years ago the great Mirrer Mashgiach Harav Chatzkel Levenstein Zt”l told him that even the Hollywood stars know this concept deep deep down. That is why at their funerals and eulogies they never mention how beautiful or rich the person was or any other physical aspects of the deceased. Despite their contrary lifestyle, they only mention how much charity the deceased gave, or how nice he was to his elderly mother, things of true virtue which have an eternal value.

   I’m so happy to hear that. I know a lot of people get the emails, but i have no idea if they read it or not. i also have no idea if they spread it around. so that is so nice to hear. thank you!

   This reminds me of something i just read this morning about how we have no idea what one good deed could do. You might think you are doing someone just a little favor, but then you find out IYH after 120, just how much that little favor meant to that person. Same thing with spreading Torah. i have no idea how many people are reading these or what effect if any, they are having. I guess I am just hoping for the best. But comments like yours help keep me going. thanks.
