The main way to gain wisdom is to remain silent and listen to the Torah thoughts of the wise. When you speak, you are not learning anything new.  But when you listen to teachers, you increase your knowledge.

There is greater benefit to be derived through your ears than through your mouth.  Therefore, we have two eyes to read the written Torah and two ears to hear the Oral Torah, but only one mouth with which to speak. ~ Vilna Gaon
