Identify That Prayer #21

It has been a while since we played this game.  This quote, which appears at the end of a certain prayer, made an impression on me recently:

“Accept our entreaty and hear our cry, O Knower of mysteries.”

Feel free to reply with the correct identity of this prayer.  The answer will be in tomorrow’s post.

Indiscriminate

During the war, our people were indiscriminately hated, simply for being Jewish. After the war, we must respond by indiscriminately loving all Jews, simply for being Jewish. ~ The Bluzhover Rebbe

The Count Down/Up?

When we look forward to a certain day, we count down the days until that day arrives.  The Sefer HaChinuch famously asks why when it comes to Sefiras Ha’omer and the giving of the Torah, why we count the days that passed instead.

The Chidushei HaRim zt’l answers that each day of Sefiras Ha’omer, we rise to a higher level of purity. Therefore, we aren’t only excited about receiving the Torah on Shavuos, but we’re also happy with each day that passes, because each day brings us closer to our Father in Heaven.

Not Back to Normal

Stop asking for things to go back to normal!  Ask Hakadosh Baruch Hu for Moshiach to come!  Ask for no more plagues, no more tzarus, no more wars, no more poverty.  Ask for the good times of Moshiach to come.

Say the words, “lishuascha kivinu kol hayom” in your Shmona Esrei from the bottom of your hearts, like you really mean it.   Because you can actually make this plague end with the coming of Moshiach.  It’s in your hands!  ~ R’ Menachem Nissel

Perfect Emuna & Achdus

It is said in the name of R’ Elimelech of Lizensk, zt”l that the most ideal time to attain emuna sheleima is tonight, the 7th night of Pesach.  In fact, the Beis Aharon zt”l said that “the six days of Pesach are a preparation for the seventh day, the primary day of Pesach. It is the most perfect day; the day Bnei Yisroel sang shirah.”

Furthermore, the Ohr Chaim states “The Jewish people sang this song [Az Yashir] with absolute unity, without difference and separation between them, for they were like one person. To hint to this point, the verse (15:1) uses the expression ‘I will sing’ (singular) and not, ‘We will sing.’”  This was the highest level of Achdus the Jews had ever experienced.   They had perfect emuna and perfect achdus!

We can achieve that too!  Even though we are all far apart, let us love each other, forgive each other and have absolute unity.  Let us put our trust completely in Hashem.  We are so close to bringing Moshiach!

May we and all the Jewish people unite and achieve the level of emuna and achdus we once experienced after crossing the yam suf during the first geulah so that we can all very very soon experience the ultimate geulah, bimheira biyameinu!

Don’t be Afraid

The blood on the doorways didn’t prevent the plague from entering their home.  Rather…whoever believed and trusted Hakadosh Baruch Hu, and wasn’t afraid of Pharaoh and his decrees, and he publicly sacrificed the Egyptian god…he is a tzaddik.  He trusted in Hashem, so he deserves to be protected.  ~ Rabbeinu b’chaya

It Starts with You

When Am Yisrael stood at the foot of the Yam Suf, Hashem commanded us to start traveling, even before He commanded Moshe Rabbeinu to split it.  The commentators explain that we had to go so far out into the sea that the water went up to our noses – only then did the sea actually split.

From this, we learn that Hashem usually performs miracles for us only after we have done everything we can do to help ourselves.  ~ R’ Shlomo Brodt

The Same Degree

According to the degree one strengthens himself that the matters that distress him shouldn’t distress him and shouldn’t confuse him, so will Hashem remove this distress from him.

Letter from R’ Moshe of Kobrin during the Cholera Plague

R’ Moshe of Kobrin zt’l wrote the following letter to his chassidim during the cholera plague:

Don’t allow what’s happening at this time to frighten you. Hashem is with us. Trust in Hashem and rely on Him. “When one trusts in Hashem, he is surrounded with kindness” (Tehillim 32:10)… As I told you before, when you have on Whom to rely, there is nothing to fear. Therefore, for Hashem’s sake, keep your spirits up. Each person should encourage his fellow man…

The counsel and the protection from this plague, r’l is that you shouldn’t be afraid…Be afraid from the One who brought the plague, and not from the plague itself.  Keep your emunah and bitachon strong, because that is the best protection. Don’t stop saying the pasuk (Yeshayah 51:12), “Hashem is with us…” Hashem will protect you and your children.

Dear brothers…don’t fear anything but Hashem, alone. When you follow this counsel, the plague won’t harm you… Hashem’s sole desire is to protect you and to save you from all bad, and to bless you with all goodness. I will also pray for you wherever I go.

Dear brothers, be healthy, strong, and happy. Just don’t worry. May I merit seeing your salvation, in ruchniyos (spiritually) and gashmiyos (physically). So writes the one who is connected to you with a true love that endures forever.

Be Persistent

Never feel discouraged that you have done so much wrong that you can no longer repent and improve.

Realize the wrongs you have done were not intentional acts of rebellion, but weakness on your part.  You were unable to muster enough strength in your battle against your evil inclination.

When a person persists in trying to improve, he will ultimately be successful.

~ R’ Mordechai Gifter zt”l
