Evil

Rebbe Nachman says the whole idea of evil was created only in order to give me free choice. Evil was never in the world for me to do evil; it was only put there so that when I do right – it can be done on a different, higher level. If we do wrong, that is completely out of place. ~ R’ Shlomo Carlebach zt”l

An Imprint

The Maor VaShemesh writes, “On motzei Shabbos kodesh, when the neshamah yeseirah leaves, an imprint of its holiness remains, as known to the experts in kabbalah.”

Similarly, the imprint and impression of Chanukah will remain with us the entire year, and for eternity. As one great chassid said, “The holiday doesn’t pass. It enters.” It becomes a part of us, acquired for eternity. ~ R’ Elimelech Biderman Shlita

A Permanent Asset that Pays Dividends

“If you gave charity, you will merit money. If you merited money, then give charity with it.”

When one has money to give, one has the opportunity to create a permanent asset. Hashem is giving the person a chance to make an investment that earns principal and dividends in this world and the World to Come. By giving the money, one cannot lose.  ~ The Chofetz Chaim citing the promise in Tanna D’Vei Eliyahu Zuta (Perek 4).

Give $1 a day to tzedukah through Dailygiving.org and create that permanent asset which will pay major dividends in this world and the next!

What is the source of happiness?

You don’t get happiness by looking elsewhere.  It’s inside of you.  You have within you an endless fountain of joy.  And when you discover this secret, then you need nothing else. There’s no experience in life that can even remotely compare with the happiness within your own mind. ~ R’ Avigdor Miller zt”l

What are you counting?

In a society that has you counting money, pounds, calories and steps, be a rebel and count your blessings instead.

For what are we grateful on Chanuka?

Gratitude is the first responsibility of the soul.  We must remember what Hashem did for our nation as long as we exist, which means forever and ever.  The gratitude of Chanuka was that Hashem helped us keep the Torah. ~ R’ Avigdor Miller zt”l

Logic?

“The miracle of Chanuka was that one flask of oil burned for eight days. Some say the oil burned, but new oil miraculously appeared each day. Some say the oil wasn’t really burning, that the flame was miraculous. The theories go on and on.

Why do we limit G-d with our logic?  Say simply the flame was burning oil, but the oil was not burning! G-d can do anything. He could even, as the saying goes, “fit an elephant through the eye of a needle.” So, how would He do it?  Would He make the elephant smaller? Or would He expand the eye of the needle? Neither. The elephant would remain big, the eye of the needle small. And He would fit the elephant through the eye of the needle. Illogical? True. But logic is just another of His creations.

He who created logic is permitted to disregard it. Impossible? Plant a seed and watch it grow. And greater by order of magnitude: Plant good deeds and watch with wonder the miracles that ensue.” – Bringing Heaven Down to Earth by Tzvi Freeman
