The Best Segula

People search for segulos (supernatural remedies) and ask Torah leaders for their blessing for a comfortable livelihood….  If they would ask my advice, I would tell them to be extremely careful not to speak lashon hara, steal, deceive or harm others. Then they would receive the blessing, “Blessed is he who does not strike his fellow in secret,” to which the entire Jewish people answered “Amen.” This blessing will surely be fulfilled. ~ Chofetz Chaim in Shemiras HaLashon II, Ch. 9.

A Different Mode of Communication

The Chofetz Chaim explains that humans communicate with speech or by  sending letters, but Hashem can send a thought or desire into a person’s heart, and thereby communicate His will.

A person often doesn’t know that Hashem planted the thought in his mind; he thinks it was his own idea. But really it was Hashem speaking to him. ~ R’ Elimelech Biderman Shlita

Means to an End

The Almighty works on every human being in order to make him as perfect as possible.  Whatever He may send us, joy and sorrow alike, is merely a means to this end. ~ R’ Samson Raphael Hirsch zt”l

That was a different guy

When a person repents for what he has done wrong in the past, he should look at himself as a newly created person and therefore his past wrongs are not identified with him. ~ Bais Halevi

Never Mad

R’ Yitzchok Meltzin never got angry at another person. If someone insulted him, he always ignored it.  He said, “It is wrong to insult someone and if this person did so, it is because he lacks the necessary understanding.  Why should I be angry at someone for his ignorance?” ~ Tnuas Hamussar

No Fear!

At times a person uses his worries as an excuse for not accomplishing.  He rationalizes his failure to take action by claiming he is afraid of potential danger.  Ostensibly he claims that he is not doing what he should because it is dangerous.  But the true reason for his inaction is laziness.

It is not fear that causes him to procrastinate, rather his tendency to procrastinate causes him to be afraid.

~ R’ Zelig Pliskin based on Mesilas Yeshorim, Ch. 9.
