It states in Tehillim 116 “הֶֽאֱמַנְתִּי כִּ֥י אֲדַבֵּ֑ר – I believe because I speak.” R’ Mordechai of Lechovitch zt”l explained based on this that speaking about emunah, reinforces it.

Rebbe Fishel Strikover zt”l would say that Hashem can cause it to snow over an entire city, in order to test just one bachur, to see whether he will wake up to learn Torah, despite the cold.

The Baal HaTanya asked a soldier why when soldiers go to war, they know there’s a good chance that they’ll die in battle, yet so many people sign up for the army willingly, and even eagerly? It seems totally irrational. What’s the explanation?

The soldier replied, “Our passion and happiness to win the war are greater than our desire to live.”

From this episode, the Baal HaTanya taught that one should approach the battle against the yetzer hara with immense joy. He should be excited to battle the yetzer hara. We shouldn’t be daunted by the difficulties of the battle, because waging this battle is the greatest joy of all. And if we strive to win the war, we will.  As the Vilna Gaon said, “Those who are stubborn will succeed.” ~ R’ Elimelech Biderman Shlita

The gemara in Avodah Zarah states that “A person can acquire eternal life in just one moment.”  But what can a person do in just one moment?

The Maggid of Mezeritzh explains that even if a person who had been off the path would make one turn toward Hashem with sincerity, that would give him eternity.

It’s still Manna that falls from the sky.  The check that your boss gives every week is nothing but Manna! The food that you buy in the stores –it’s Hashem, not the grocer, who’s handing you the food.  Israel was prepared for forty years in the Midbar (desert) to think, “Hashem is doing everything, we are nothing. ~ R’ Avigdor Miller zt”l

This shouldn’t be taken lightly.  Imagine if we were able to see this reward; everyone would run to be the first 10!

One who guards his mouth and tongue [from speaking loshon hara] guards his soul from tribulations ~ Mishlei 21:23

If not speaking loshon hara is very difficult for you, start off by designating just an hour a day where you absolutely commit to not speak or hear loshon hara.   Over time, look to increase those hours and see where it takes you.  But realize that even if you can’t increase the time, that one hour will be very beneficial to your soul.  Start today!
