The Corresponding Limb

If a person uses a limb of his body to perform a mitzvah in this world, Hashem’s radiance will rest upon that limb in the World to Come.  However, if he forsakes one of the 248 positive commandments (which correspond to the 248 limbs of the body, and does not do teshuva (repent), then his soul will lack the corresponding spiritual “limb” in the World to Come.

Therefore, if a person joins the ranks of those who speak lashon hara, and gives free rein to his mouth and ears to speak and hear lashon hara, he will punished in the World to Come by having these faculties impaired. ~ Shemiras HaLashon

A Time to Procrastinate

The Talmud states (Kiddushin 30b), “A person’s yetzer hara is renewed each day.” Why must it be renewed?  Because when something is real, it can be constant.  It can carry from one day to the next.  The yetzer hara is an illusion, and is controlled by moods.  He cannot keep up his act for long, because as soon as your mood changes, the urge will dissipate.  If you procrastinate for an hour or two, you will find that you are no longer tempted to sin. ~ The 6 Contstant Mitzvos

Tightrope

How does a tightrope walker maintain his balance? When he feels himself pulled to one side, he immediately leans toward the other side. We must apply this technique to life in general. ~ R’ Yisrael Friedman of Rizhin zt”l

When the Sun Shines

Never let your head down.  Never give up, sit down and grieve. Find another way.  But don’t expect your prayers to be answered when it rains, if you don’t pray when the sun shines. ~ Torah Tavlin

Revealing someone is a Baal Tshuva

You are forbidden to relate information about a person’s past misdeeds or the misdeeds of his family, even if you do not not intend to belittle him, and you will not cause the listener to think less of him, as he has now corrected his ways.

This is forbidden because a person is usually embarrassed of his misdeeds are recalled in his presence.  Hence, you might ultimately cause him anguish if the information becomes widely known. ~ Guard Your Tongue
