The Flickering Candles

If we would be on the spiritual level of ruach hakodesh, we would be able to see future events by gazing at the Shabbos lights.  The Shabbos lights foretell the future with the same accuracy as the prophets did, speaking in the name of Hashem ~ Yesod Yosef as quoted by R’ Dovid Meisels

Say this Before Prayer

It is proper to say before prayer, “I hereby take upon myself to fulfill the mitzva `Love your fellowman as yourself.'” This means that the precept of Ahavat Yisrael is the entry-gate through which man can pass to stand before G-d to Daven. By merit of that love, the worshipper’s prayer is accepted. ~ R’Schneur Zalman of Liadi zt”l

The First

The first to apologize is the bravest.  The first to forgive is the strongest. The first to forget is the happiest.

The tefilah I quoted yesterday was “Tzidkuscha” which we say toward the end of Mincha each Shabbos.

Identify that Prayer #6

Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness and Your Torah is truth.  And Your righteousness, O God, is unto the high heavens, You, Who have done great things, O God, Who is like You?  Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains – Your judgment is like the vast deep waters.  Man and beast You save, Hashem.

The First Mitzvah of Shabbos

The First Mitzvah when Shabbos is ushered in is the kindling of the Shabbos lights.

The Ohr Hachayim explains: Hashem created the world to last 6 days, and every Shabbos the world receives an injection of renewed creative strength to last for another 6 days.  At Creation, the first thing that was brought into being was light.  Therefore, the first mitzvah at the arrival of Shabbos is the kindling of the lights, to correspond with the light that was the first creation.  ~ Tzemach Dovid as quoted by R’ Dovid Meisels
