One should Live like he is about to Die

A person should always see himself as if he is about to die, lest he die during a moment when he is a sinner and removed from God.  Therefore he must return from his sin immediately. ~ Rambam

If it Could, it Would

“Everything a person has is allotted to him by the Ribon Shel Olam.  Don’t think that if something is not going well in a person’s life, it could still be better.  If it could be better, it would be better!” ~ The Chafetz Chaim

The Steipler Gaon

Once, a young married scholar spent a long time with Rav Yaakov Yisrael Kanievsky zt”l, better known as the Steipler, seeking guidance in his learning.  As the young man expressed his thanks and turned to leave, the Steipler said, “Do not forget to help out in the house.  I see that you are a true ben Torah and a masmid (diligent); but it is important to give proper attention to one’s family.  When you go home now, ask your wife if she needs your help.” The young man replied, “My wife possesses true yiras Hashem, and she wants with all her heart that I should devote myself to the study of Torah.”  “That is her mitzvah,” countered the Steipler; “your mitzvah is to help her.”

Very Deep teaching from R’ Nachman

It is the essence of the return to God that you should search at all times and beg:  “Where is the place of His glory?”  Then the fall itself is transformed into a great ascent.  The whole purpose of the fall is revealed as being solely for the sake of the ascent, as all our sages have explained in our sacred writings.  Search into this idea and understand it well; it is very deep.  ~ R’ Nachman of Breslev zt”l

The Definition of Serving Hashem

The definition of what it means to serve Hashem is the feeling of humility of someone who receives a benefit.  If favors are done for an individual and he is unable to pay for what he is receiving, he is so overwhelmed that he becomes humbled toward the benefactor. He should feel the need to repay Hashem for the good that he is receiving to the extent of his abilities. ~ R’ Avigdor Miller zt”l

Needing Honor

If you need others to honor you, you are in a worse situation than someone who needs others to give him charity.  When someone resorts to begging for tzedakah (charity), others feel sorry for him and have mercy on him.  But if people see that someone requires honor, they will automatically refuse to give it to him.  ~ R’ Yosef Leib Bloch zt”l (Torah Tavlin)

Announcement: Some Changes to Emuna Daily

A friend of mine heard from R’ Moshe Weinberger of Aish Kodesh, that hearing stories of tzaddikim (righteous people) after Shabbos, is very beneficial for our neshamos (souls), as the stories themselves as well as the mentioning of a tzaddik provides tremendous Bracha through the week. Therefore, God willing, with my friend’s help, we will begin to post a story of a tzaddik each Saturday night.

Second, I have received both positive and negative feedback regarding the yiddish lines that I began posting on Wednesdays over the last month or so. I don’t want to get rid of it since many of you enjoy it, but I also don’t want to cheat anyone out of Torah. Therefore, I plan on moving the yiddish quotes to Sunday (a day on which I don’t typically post).

Therefore, we are making the leap from 5 days to 7 days per week. Stories of Tzaddikim on Saturday nights, Yiddish proverbs on Sundays and spiritually uplifting quotes and other Torah on Mondays through Fridays.  I hope you all enjoy!

We Don’t Have all the Answers

Hashem tells us through the prophet, לא מחשבותי מחשבותיכם – the human mind is not capable of understanding His ways in this world.  Part of being a Jew is knowing that we do not have to know the answers to all questions.  Emuna means that we do not understand everything.  It is belief – belief that Hashem is צדיק וישר, everything He does is correct and just.  ~ Divrei Chizuk
