A Goal

A goal is more than an end to strive for; it is a strong arm which leads one along, where otherwise he would flounder or falter.  ~ R’ Shraga Silverstein zt”l

Talmud Yerushalmi

To my fellow Gemara learners, tomorrow is a very exciting day – the start of the 11th cycle of Daf Yomi Yerushalmi!

Perhaps for the very first time in history, after about 1800 years, Talmud Yerushalmi is going to be accessible to all with the completion of both the Artscroll Hebrew and English Daf Yomi Edition Yerushalmi, along with a plethora of shiurim which are being offered to make it much easier to learn it.  The sugyas are not as complicated as Bavli and the shiurim are quite short and simple to follow.

As with any new cycle of learning, it always pays to just try it out and take it day by day.  Short-term goals are much easier to reach than long-term goals.  When I started the current Talmud Bavli Daf Yomi cycle, I only committed to doing it for a day, but now, almost 3 years later, I am almost halfway through, B’H going strong and can’t imagine my life without it.

The Vilna Gaon said that at the time of the coming of Moshiach, Jews will be studying Talmud Yerushalmi! This is such an exciting time! Give Yerushalmi a shot and see if it is for you.

Let’s take the next step together! Hatzlochah Rabbah to all!

Is He Listening?

Sometimes we are angry at G-d, because we think He doesn’t listen to our prayers.

Reb Tzadok HaKohen says something so strong.  The truth is that G-d listens to every prayer.  But sometimes while I am praying, I’m already making plans of what to do if G-d doesn’t help me.

So G-d says  “Listen brother, do your thing. I don’t want to disturb your plans “

Afraid?

If a person is afraid of Gehinom, he has nothing to fear.

But if he isn’t afraid, he has a lot to be afraid of.

A Good Influence?

People are not influenced by what you say.

They are influenced by who you are.

Don’t Push it Off

When it comes to mitzvos, don’t make a “To Do” list.

Instead, make a “Do” list.

Don’t wait!

The Sun will Rise

Just as one is certain the sun will rise in the morning, he should be certain that Hashem will help him.

If only I did this = Apikorsis

After being told that his legs didn’t have to be amputated, R’ Leibke Glauberman replied, “I heard from my rebbe, the Yanuka (R’ Yisrael of Stolin): to say ‘if only I would have done things differently…’ is apikorsis

Everything is destined from Heaven.  The doctors may say that an illness such as I had didn’t call for amputation. But my legs needed to be amputated nonetheless, because that was decreed from Above.  It wouldn’t have happened if it wasn’t Hashem’s will.
