How Near is God

“God appears far, but no one is closer than Him.  He is high above His universe, but a person can enter the synagogue, stand near the pulpit, and pray in a whisper – and God hears his prayer.” ~ Talmud Yerushalmi, Berachos 9:1

Does one have to be in a synagogue to pray? Can he pray on the train? on the street? Can he think his “bakashot” and will they be answered?

I am not sure about thinking your bakashot. We learn from Chana how to daven. She moved her lips and i believe whispered.

Although this quote states that one can do this in a synagogue, i dont think it is meant to exclude anywhere else. Other than perhaps a bathroom and the like, one can and should talk to Hashem anywhere.
