The Holiness of Shabbos

If the Shabbos would only be a gift from Hashem, then the common people would experience the same elation and ecstasy as the greatest tzaddik.  But this is not so.  An ordinary Jew feels very little of the spiritual bliss of Shabbos. He enjoys delectable foods, relaxes, and sleeps – to be sure, he thereby is fulfilling the mitzvah of “taking delight in the Shabbos – but that is not the highest form of experiencing the kedusha (holiness) of Shabbos.
The more one prepares himself during the week to receive kedusha, the more kedusha he perceives on Shabbos.  ~ P’ri Tazaddik as quoted R’ Dovid Meisels
