The Source of All Blessings

The greater the harmony, mutual respect and devotion between a husband and wife – particularly when both are observers of Torah and mitzvos – the greater is the measure of God’s blessings to both of them for all their needs. ~ The Lubavitcher Rebbe

Do not take this lightly.  Shalom Bayis is the vessel in which a husband and wife will receive Hashem’s blessings.   Where there is no Shalom Bayis, there are no blessings.

2 Gifts

“I opened two gifts this morning.  They were my eyes.”

I just heard a shiur from R’ Zecharia Wallerstein where he suggests that in order to gain a better appreciation for what you have, try closing your eyes for a little while.  In fact, he says to try even just closing one eye for a half hour.  Do this and you will come to appreciate these two amazing gifts that Hashem gave us.

Just Imagine + Segula Today for Parnasah

Imagine you could open your eyes to see only the good in every person, the positive in every circumstance, and the opportunity in every challenge.  ~ The Lubavitcher Rebbe

Today, the Tuesday of Parshas Beshalach, there is a well known segula for parnasah – say Parshas HaMon “shnayim mikra v’echad targum” (2 times the pasuk and 1 time the Targum Unkelos).   Here is a link to the text http://www.tefillos.com/parshas_hamon.asp

Advice from Eliyahu HaNavi

Do not become angry and you will not sin.

Do not become intoxicated and you will not sin.

And when you set out on the way, beg leave of your Creator and then set out (say Tefilas HaDerech).

~ Elijah the Prophet – Berachos 29b

Hide-and-Seek

Once, the young grandson of Rabbi Boruch of Mezhibuz was playing hide-and-seek with his friends.  The young boy hid, and waited for his friends to find him.  But no one came.  He left his hiding place to discover that they had become involved in a different game.  In great disappointment, he went to tell his grandfather what had happened.

As Rabbi Boruch listened to the child cry, his own eyes filled with tears. “This is exactly what is happening to the Shechinah,” he sighed.  “She is hidden, and no one is looking for her.  God wants us to search for and reveal the Divine Presence in the world, but instead, everyone is involved in his own life and concerns, and so the darkness of exile continues.” ~ R’ Yaakov Meir Shechter

At the Microcosmic Level

All significant change in human behavior takes place at the microcosmic, not the macrocosmic level. It belongs not to social forces or trends, but to the here-and-now of single individuals. ~ R’ Lord Jonathan Sacks
