Moshe Speaks to Us

Hashem told Moshe, “I have a good gift in My treasury, Shabbos is its name; I want

to give it to the Jewish nation. Go and inform them” (Shabbos 10).

The Chidushei HaRim says that this wasn’t a one-time event. Every week, before Shabbos arrives, Moshe speaks to every Yid’s neshamah and says, “Hashem told me to tell you that He is giving you the great gift of Shabbos.”

Even a person alone in a room will experience the holiness of Shabbos as it arrives because that is when we receive Moshe Rabbainu’s encouraging message about the beautiful gift Hashem is giving us.

The Big Misconception

There isn’t any connection between hishtadlus and parnassah.

Hishtadlus is a tax we all must pay, and Hashem sends the parnassah.

Never Angry

There are three types of people that the Holy One, Blessed is He, loves.

One of them is a person who does not get angry.

A Segulah to Do Something

All of the gedolei yisroel that we have known were extremely diligent about doing whatever needed to be done immediately.

Indeed, the Chazon Ish used to say, “A segulah for not forgetting to do something is to do it immediately.”

Losses – Wow!

Just as our income is decided on Rosh Hashanah, so are our losses.

Hashem allows monetary losses to serve as a kapparah for decrees.  So, for example, if someone is supposed to break a leg, he might instead lose $100. That loss would serve as kapparah; the pain Hashem inflicted on him is in truth a chessed.

However, a more beneficial way to lose that money is by giving tzedakah. If we are going to lose it one way – e.g., in the stock market, or another way – e.g., when the rabbi calls for a donation, surely we would rather the latter.

Not only will you earn a kapparah, but you will turn the monetary loss into a spiritual gain!

What an Opportunity

Whoever had an opportunity to commit an aveirah and avoids it and is saved from the aveirah, a miracle will happen to him. ~ Kiddushin 40b

Next time you overcome a challenge to sin, take advantage of the moment and say a prayer.

Emuna & Bitachon

Whoever trusts in Hashem, believes in Hashem.

But not all that believe in Hashem, trust Him.

Emuna is like a tree and Bitachon is like the fruit.

(Many trees don’t bear fruit, but all fruit come from a tree).

~ Ramban

Emuna is a concept, a belief in Hashem.  Hopefully, we all have this.

Bitachon is the reality of Emuna, living a certain way and applying that belief.

Two Doors

Hashem created two doors – one in Shamayim and one in the heart of man.

When one opens his heart to the needs of his fellow man, then the corresponding door in Shamayim is opened to hear his cry.

I Already Heard That

When someone tells you something you already know, don’t tell him, “I heard that already.”

~ The Rosh

In other words, people enjoy sharing news.  Therefore, give them the satisfaction of being the bearer of good news.  Don’t deflate them by saying you already heard it.  Make them feel good!
